Hello, and welcome to The Cookbook Chronicles, a blog that showcases the recipe-testing I’m doing for my first cookbook: The Newlywed Kitchen: Delicious Meals for Couples Cooking Together. The cookbook is published by Sasquatch Books, and will be in stores May 2010.

As a newlywed, I feel incredibly fortunate to have also found someone who views the occasion of preparing and sharing a meal as one of the most intimate and loving rites a couple can experience. My husband and I are fairly accomplished home cooks and during the three years we’ve been together, we’ve celebrated many of our milestone events together in the kitchen—from preparing duck ragu for his family when I met his family for the first time, to hosting our first Thanksgiving together, where we challenged one another to a “Turkey-off”. Our relationship was founded on our mutual love of food and our desire to nourish one another’s stomachs as well as our spirits. And with this cookbook, we hope to inspire newlyweds (and couples who still have that newlywed spark!) to return to the kitchen and enjoy preparing meals side-by-side once again.

Outside of working on this cookbook, I am a Contributing dining editor and the “Key Ingredient” columnist and at Seattle Magazine.

Ali Basye, the editor at Seattle Bride magazine is also contributing to this project. Our cookbook will be peppered by intimate stories from celebrity chefs and their spouses who shared their secrets to happiness in and out of the kitchen with Ali. Ali and I met when she featured our wedding in Seattle Bride.

    Hi Lorna,

Beautiful blog! I had to do a double take because I believe we’ve met once years ago, at a whiskey and cheese tasting at the Salty Tongue in Vancouver. It was a brief encounter to be sure.

I’m both amazed and impressed by all that you’ve accomplished so far – chef, food columnist, cookbook author. How do you do it? Hard work? Talent? Right place a the right time? All of the above? Congrats on everything. I’m sure you’ve made your family and friends back home proud.

    Cheers!

Helen, yes, I was at the whiskey/cheese tasting years ago! Nice to ‘meet’ you again!

I’ve been incredibly lucky with everything that’s happened. Let’s hope this cookbook is a success!

hello! my husband and i will be in seattle for a few days in october and are looking for lodging recommendations. besides my husband’s meetings and a visit to delancey, we don’t have much of a plan. we are completely unfamiliar with neighborhoods, hotels, restaurants, etc., but love wandering around and exploring. we just need a good home base. after perusing your blog it seems you are the perfect person to ask. any suggestions?

Hi Denise, what sort of restaurants do you typically like? Casual, high-end? French, Italian, cheap eats, etc.? I would pick downtown as a home base–it is quite easy to get around. Let me know what you’re looking for, and I’ll try to help you out. Just email me at y_lorna@yahoo.com =)

So glad to have found you again, Lorna! I followed your romance over at eG, and was sad to see that you are no longer sharing your fabulous desserts there (I was away for a while as well).
    Lovely, lovely blog!

I found this great blog when looking for someone to have “unlocked” the Paseo sandwich. I recognize you from the little piece in Seattle Magazine and I also think I saw you in the No Reservations episode on the PNW. If so, is Gypsy as amazing as it looked?
