The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie?

Do these look like the perfect chocolate chip cookies to you?
This is where I’m at in the process of slowly inching my way towards the perfect chocolate chip cookie–close! I plan on using a little less bread flour in my next batch, and decrease the leavening ever so slightly. Thanks for being so patient during this process. I hope to post the final recipe by next week.

Yum.
In the ideal chocolate chip cookie, I like a bit of chew, and a dark, molasses-like flavor. I like a slightly crisp edge. A molten middle that belies a great many ounces of dark chocolate chunks in the batter. A long, fragrant, vanilla and brown sugar-scented finish. A bit of crunch on top. (My secret–a sprinkle of demerara sugar, and a light dust of vanilla salt.)

I’ve tasted many cookies ruined by overbaking. I like my CC cookies to be not just chewy, but soft in the middle. Looking forward to your recipe.

These cookies look packed with chocolate goodness. My ideal sounds much like your own. I have yet to taste vanilla salt though and imagine it adds quite a lovely accent.

Thanks all!
Laurie: I only bake them for 12 minutes. They’re soft in the middle. =)

They look wonderful and my idea of the perfect chocolate chip cookie is one without the chocolate, so that is saying something. I can’t wait to find out how you do it and what vanilla salt is.

I can’t think of anything other than what you’ve described to be the perfect chocolate chip cookie! I’m not familiar with vanilla salt either (but it sounds tasty!).

I wish I had the patience and skill to break down recipes and make improvements. My favorite chocolate chip cookies are ones that come straight out of the oven! It’s such a wonderful sensation, and maybe knowing it’s so temporary and in the moment, that’s what makes the fresh-baked experience so special.
