  • Canvolution! Canning Across America

Tomorrow, on August 29th 2009, thousands of people across America will be participating in the kick-off for Canvolution, a movement designed to revive the lost art of putting up food.

There are many Canvolution parties happening throughout America tomorrow–look for one in your community, or have a few friends over and throw a little impromptu canning party of your own! I will be pulling up the remaining rhubarb from my garden and making sweet and sour pickles with it!

Here are some Canvolution links to recipes, and more info about the movement to get you started.

Canning Across America is a wonderful resource for anyone who’s eager to learn more about canning and preserving.

Local award-winning food writer Rebekah Denn guest blogs about inspiring books that’ll get your started with canning.

PCC posts an article with links to local canning events around town.

And of course, be sure you’re following Canvolution on Twitter here!

Are you participating in Canvolution? I would love to hear about what you’re making!

I can’t wait! My local event (Somerville, MA) is on Sunday. I’m a compete newbie (beyond fridge pickles, that is) so I’m excited to get some hands-on learning time with people who know what they’re doing. The “menu” is going to be a surprise, but I think we’re doing pickles, tomatoes, jam, and some lacto-fermentation in the form of sauerkraut. It’s going to be so much fun!

I’m excited too! I’m heading over to the Somerville one as well. I’ve only ever canned jams & chutneys so am thrilled to learn about lacto-fermentation.
