An array of flavored salts from Secret Stash

If you follow Janna (@secretstashsalt) on Twitter, you might know that Secret Stash Salts recently lost their booth at the Ballard farmer’s market. (Cooklocal’s got the scoop.) You can still purchase the salts online and on Thursdays at the Queen Anne farmer’s market, so visit Janna on Thursdays on the hill. My husband and I bought the chorizo salt and the smoked chipotle salt last week, and we’ve been using it in everything. Janna particularly likes the Nicoise olive salt; I think, after tasting it yesterday, that it’s my new favorite too!

Here are some of the more unusual flavors they offer: lavender rosemary, almond cardamom, and apple five-spice

Secret Stash is one of our favorite vendors at the market because it’s a great product, and because Janna is so personable and friendly. I hope you market-goers can rally behind this small local business and make it out to Queen Anne this summer to support her!

There are also lovely cheeses to be had at the Queen Anne farmer’s market–you can get cheese curds from Golden Glen (perfect for homemade poutine!)

    Mt. Townsend booth

Mount Townsend makes some of Washington state’s most well-known cheeses. My favorite cheese from Mt.  Townsend is the Cirrus, a soft, buttery camembert-like cheese.

Monteillet Cheese is the only cheese vendor I’m not very familiar with–I didn’t have the chance to sample the cheeses yesterday because I had to run to a meeting, but I’d love to hear your thoughts about their cheeses in the comments!

Lorna, your posts are always so amazing. Especially the pie post! And your photos are phenomenal!

And thanks for sharing Secret Stash Salts with us because I didn’t know about them until today. I just went on their site and I am planning on buying the coconut masala salt and the almond cardamom salt. I could imagine how great they would taste in some of my Indian recipes.

I can’t wait to see what you do with Janna’s salts, Kam!

I read your post after a 10 hr shift at the restaurant. It made me smile, and feel very thankful to have your support. Though your hot lasagna was a close second(!), your words keep us just as warm, and happy.

You’re very welcome, Janna! It’s the very least that I could do.
