  • Which Nutella-ricotta donuts do you prefer?

    nutellaricotta

Happy National Donut Day! I fried five different batches of donuts today, and here are my top two contenders. One is a plain ricotta dough filled with Nutella, and the other is a Nutella-ricotta dough filled with Nutella.

    2xnutella

Never made donuts before, and think this recipe might be too difficult for the cookbook? Psst…this was my first time making donuts at home too! The dough is very simple, and uses only ricotta, vanilla, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Simply stir these ingredients together in a bowl, and drop each tablespoon full of dough into a pan of hot oil. In 7-8 minutes, your first batch of fluffy donuts will be ready.

Here’s where I need your help. Which recipe should I include in the book? I like them both, and can be a little indecisive when it comes to choosing a final recipe. Leave your vote in the comment section. Thanks so much in advance!

I should mention that the votes outside of the blog currently stand at 3 for 2x Nutella, 3 for plain filled with Nutella.

I would go with the nutella and dough recipe. They BOTH look delicious!

Hi Kristi! Thanks for stopping by! Do you mean the Nutella in the dough recipe?

I vote plain ricotta dough. I think it would let the filling stand out more (although the nutella dough would allow for layers of nutella flavour, sometimes it’s good just to let a flavour really pop).

Once again, can both be in the book? Like…print the plain ricotta dough recipe but then add a note at the bottom stating how to modify it with the extra nutella?

Hmm..not sure if that would work, since they contain different amounts of…everything. But I would put the other recipe on my blog. =)

Just had my…ah, sixth donut. The plain ricotta ones seem to hold up better for a little while longer, the Nutella-Nutella ones are starting to taste a little oily, probably b/c they were fried at lower temperature b/c I didn’t want the Nutella to burn.

I vote for plain ricotta filled with Nutella. It looks fabulous. I want to climb inside, close the two halves around me & eat my way out…

I vote for plain ricotta filled with Nutella; it gives it a mix of flavors — that way, it’s not entirely chocolate/hazelnut, but some vanilla?/cheese in there, as well.

Isn’t there room for both? It’s like King Solomon choosing – not fair.

    I vote for the plain.

Looks good by the way – I’d love to try them! Is the Nutella piped in after frying?

Curious about the technique you used to fill the plain doughnuts with the Nutella.
